Bio

Prof. dr. Ruud J. A. Muffels(MA economics, Tilburg) is professor of socio-economics (chair in labour market and social security ) at Tranzo, the Center for Care and Wellbeing and the Department of Sociology of Tilburg University. Before, he was Director of Reflect – a Research Institute on Flexicurity and Labour Market Dynamics at Tilburg University. He is also research fellow at NETSPAR, the network for research on ageing, and fellow at research institutes in Berlin (DIW) and Bonn (IZA). His research interests concern subjective wellbeing and health, labour market dynamics, inequality and poverty, ageing and pensions and comparative welfare state analysis. He has published more than 300 papers in a wide range of economic, sociological and interdisciplinary journals and in international academic volumes.

Have build a sound record in scientific research in various academic fields. Acted as chairman of departments and as director of research institutes. Have a lot of experience in acquiring, conducting and collaborating in international comparative research for the European Commission, The European Science Foundation and international scientific organisations. Took positions in management boards, advisory committees, evaluation committees and being member of supervisory boards of various societal organisations. Acted as a consultant for Eurostat and the EC. Published more than 300 articles, chapters and books.
