From grounds to burgers in just three steps

During Dutch Sustainability Day (10-10), we would like to show you some examples of the process of upcycling. Caterer MAAS, that services the coffee machines on our campus, will collect the coffee grounds from all coffee machines on the Tilburg University campus and transport them to mushroom grower GRO in Gemert.

The coffee grounds are inoculated with spawn, and oyster mushrooms will pop up within six to nine weeks. The mushrooms are used by caterer Sodexo in various mushroom snacks that are served on the Tilburg University campus.
