Social responsibility and an entrepreneurial attitude should go hand in hand. As an institution of academic education, we are inextricably linked to society. Our academic research is aimed to understand society and, where possible, to enhance it. In this spirit, we educate our students to become citizens of the world and future leaders with a strong ethical awareness and sense of responsibility. Building character and impact are crucial in this context.

The keynote speech: “From Homo Sapiens to Homo Sapiens Verus!” was presented by Prof. Margriet M. Sitskoorn, Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at the Tilburg School of Social & Behavioral Sciences.
Margriet Sitskoorn argued that Homo sapiens is losing its right to exist. Homo sapiens is too self-centered, too much focused on its own interests and on the short term. Today’s society requires people who also think of others, who place collaboration center stage, who are flexible, and who are focused on long-term interests. A Homo Sapiens Verus, a truly wise human being, is someone who has both feet on the ground, is firmly connected to society, and takes responsibility for past, present, and future.

Her speech was followed by the presentation of the BESI Award for exceptional entrepreneurial young alumni. Winner: Koen Lavrijssen from Mr. Winston

After the ceremony, a reception was held in the Foyer of Cobbenhagen Building.
