Grade and credit conversion

Students receive recognition for courses that they successfully completed during their exchange, as long as the courses were approved by their School at Tilburg University. You can find more information about this process on this page.

Once you have successfully completed the Upon Return section of your workflow in Mobility Online, the Study Abroad & Exchange Team will start the process of converting the credits/credits and grades you obtained during your exchange to your Tilburg University study program. We call this the conversion process.

Credits, grades or both?

Regulations regarding credit and grade recognition differ per Tilburg University School. These regulations are set by the Schools themselves:

  • TiSEM, TSB and TLS students will only have the credits earned during their exchange added to their degree program. Grades earned during your exchange are not taken into consideration and will not affect your Tilburg University GPA. Grades are simply counted as either Pass or Fail.
  • For TSHD and TST students, both the credits and grades that they earned during their exchange will be counted towards their Tilburg University degree program. Grades at the host university will be converted into Tilburg University grades.

Conversion process

At the end of your exchange, your host university will issue an official transcript, which shows the credits and grades you obtained during your exchange. Sometimes they will send this to you directly and sometimes it is sent to your Study Abroad & Exchange Coordinator, who will then share it with you.

Upon receiving your transcript, you need to upload it to the Upon Return section of your workflow. You also need to complete a short report of your exchange experience - this will be used to help future students choose their dream destination! Make sure to complete all 4 pages, otherwise the step won't show as completed in your workflow.

As soon as these 2 steps are complete, your Study Abroad & Exchange Coordinator will begin the conversion process by creating a conversion letter. The letter contains information taken from your transcript from your host university and the course approval(s) you received from your School, and the information in the tables below. The conversion letter is then sent to your School, who gives a final check of the information. After that, it is sent to Student Administration, who take care of adding the credits/grades to your OSIRIS profile.

Please note that only courses which you received course approval for can be counted towards your Tilburg University study program.
