Study Abroad Study Plan - Humanities and Digital Sciences

For the Liberal Arts and Sciences Bachelor Program, a minor program consisting of 30 ECTS is compulsory. If you want to study abroad for this minor, you are expected to take at least 24 ECTS worth of courses abroad and complete one major LAS ‘distance’ course worth 6 ECTS during your exchange. When deciding what minor courses to choose, it is advisable to take into consideration what master you would like to take after graduation from your LAS bachelor program. The reason for this is that some Master programs have additional requirements. In some cases, you can use your minor program to meet these additional requirements during your bachelor program, enabling you to enroll for the Master program of your choice without any study delays. Should you need advice on your minor, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with the Educational Coordinator

The courses can be obtained in Tilburg, at other Dutch universities, or abroad (or a mixture). Students may select any courses for their exchange, with the exception that language courses or more than 2 first year courses are not allowed. There should also be no overlap with courses in the CIS study program. You are expected to take at least 24 ECTS worth of courses abroad.

These minor courses can be obtained in Tilburg, at other Dutch universities, or via an exchange abroad. Students may select any courses for their exchange, with the exception that language courses or more than 2 first year courses are not allowed. There should also be no overlap with courses in the CSAI study program.

If you decide to go on exchange,  you are expected to take at least 24 ECTS worth of courses at the host university. The department’s minor coordinator can advise you about possible course choices. The Board of Examiners determines whether the courses you select match the criteria.

This requires philosophy students to apply for an exchange in their first year of study. Special rules apply in this case. First year philosophy students are excluded from applying for the first deadline in November. They can apply for the second or third application deadline when they have obtained 30 ECTS. Or, they can apply for the fourth or fifth application deadline when they have obtained 54 ECTS.

For the Master programs CIS and KCW: MCD has one elective that can be taken abroad.

The Master's program in Communication and Information Sciences offers scope for following one elective course (6 ECTS). An elective course may be completed with no more than one Master's course offered by a degree program accredited by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. For any other choice, prior permission must be obtained from the Examination Board. No prior permission is given for more than one elective course. If more courses have been taken elsewhere―after successful completion―a request can be submitted to the Examination Board to list those units of study as 'extra courses' on the transcript of grades.

Although an exchange semester is not embedded in the Research Master program, it is still possible for Research Master students to go on exchange. The Research Master in Linguistics and Communication Sciences offers flexibility in the sequence of the program, allowing students to minimize study delays with the help of good planning. If you are a Research Master student and you are interested in an exchange program, you are advised to first contact the study advisor (s.warmerdam@tilburgbuniversity.edu) since exchange courses do not automatically count towards your curriculum as elective courses.
