What do you need to do to graduate and apply for your degree?

Before you can graduate and apply for your degree, check that you have met all the graduation requirements of your study program. In the graduation Master's Graduation Checklist, you'll find the requirements you must complete in order to graduate. 

Did you get your final grade, but your grade hasn't been credited yet? Do submit a deregistration request via Studielink before the end of the month.

Apply yourself

The time between your degree application and degree receipt is 3 to 4 weeks. So please check all results within your study progress as soon as possible. You must apply for your degree yourself.

How to apply for a degree?

Master degree graduation ceremony

From the moment you are in the concluding phase regarding graduation, you can apply for the master's degree through Osiris Case. You must check whether all courses you have passed have been registered in Osiris.

If you have obtained your final result, but your grade has not yet been registered in Osiris, please contact the teacher so that the teacher can pass on the grade to the Student Administration. 

After you have submitted your application for your master's degree through Osiris Student and your enrollment and payment are not in order, you will receive an e-mail about it up to two times. The e-mail will tell you exactly what steps you need to take to get your enrollment and payment sorted out. After two warnings, if your registration and payment are still not in order, your application can be canceled by the Student Administration. You must then submit a new application through Osiris after your registration and payment have been arranged.

No later than 5 weeks before the graduation date, the application deadline closes. 
After the deadline, your application cannot be taken until the next graduation ceremony. You must then submit a new application through Osiris Case.  Below is additional information per faculty:

Not present at the ceremony

If you have met all graduation requirements but do not wish to attend the graduation ceremony (or are unable to do so), then you will receive an email from the Student Administration. If you don't have the possibility to come to the Student Desk, you can give anyone else authorization to pick up your diploma and grade lists. For giving authorization use the following form: authorization form.

Participate in a subsequent graduation ceremony

If you want to participate in a next graduation ceremony, you can register for the graduation ceremony through Osiris Case with "date yet unknown".  You will receive more information about this later, at your own private e-mail address, from the school secretariat.

Graduation statement and diploma supplement

Students automatically receive an English-language graduation statement when the graduation date is determined in Osiris.

The diploma supplement is issued to all Master's students along with the degree, grade sheets and any certificates obtained.

Master degree request with presentation during defense

From the moment that all your compulsory courses are credited in Osiris Student, and your thesis is in the phase of completion regarding graduation, you can apply for the degree (diploma) via Osiris Case. For smooth processing, submit your application preferably 3 weeks before the defense date

An application to receive the degree during defense can only be considered if your thesis supervisor expected that you will receive at least a grade of 6 for the thesis. Therefore, your application will first be forwarded to your thesis supervisor for approval. You do not need to take any action yourself for the approval of your thesis. This process goes through Osiris Case.  

Ask your thesis supervisor to approve your application preferably within 2 days. This way your application can be forwarded to Student Administration as soon as possible for further processing of your application.

Application degree 3 weeks term

The application must be submitted via Osiris Case no later than 3 weeks before the date of your defense. If your application falls outside the 3 week deadline, you will not receive your degree during the defense. If you do wish to receive your degree during the defense, you must schedule a new date with your thesis supervisors. Don't forget to submit an application for the awarding of your master's degree during the defense.

Confirmation

If you meet all requirements for graduation and have submitted your application on time, you will receive a graduation schedule via your email (university/private) no later than 1 week before the graduation date. 

Reserving a room for your defense

You can reserve a graduation room at the Student Desk. To do so, you need to fill out the contact form yourself, with the subject 'reserve room graduation master'.  If you meet all the requirements to graduate, you will receive confirmation of your defense/graduation via email some time later.

Pick up your diploma at the Student Desk

If your program does not offer a joint or individual graduation ceremony or you choose not to participate, it is possible to pick up your degree at the Student Desk. You must request your degre (diploma) via Osiris Case and choose the option 'Collect diploma at the Student Desk'.  You will receive an email from the Student Administration (within 1 month) informing you when you can pick up your degree at the Student Desk.  Check the webpage from the Student Desk for the opening hours. You will receive this message via the e-mail address you entered in Studielink.

What should I do if I am no longer registered in Osiris but still want to pick-up my degree?

Thirty days after you graduate from your Master's program, you no longer have access to Osiris. You can then no longer apply for your Master's degree through Osiris yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to change my name or e-mail address for my degree application. What should I do?

If the call name is incorrect, you can change your call name yourself via Studielink.

If the private e-mail address differs from the e-mail address you used in, this must be changed via Studielink. In Studielink this e-mail address can be found under, Contact details: private e-mail address.

Can I authorize someone if I cannot pick up my degree myself?

If you don't have the possibility to come to the Student Desk, you can give anyone else authorization to pick up your degree and grade lists. For giving authorization use the following form: authorization form.

How do I apply for my Judicium?

If you receive the degree during the defense and you are eligible for a Judicium, you can request it through the Student Desk contact form.  

Please include the information below:  

  • Reason for request 
  • Name 1st and 2nd readers (examination committee) 
  • Private email address  

It takes three to four weeks, before the requested documents are ready. You will be notified, as soon as you can pick up the documents at the Student Desk.

How long can I still use my Tilburg University e-mail address?

After you deregister and you are not enrolled in another program, you will still be able to access your university e-mail 30 calendar days after you de-enrollment. After 30 calendar days, you can no longer access your university e-mail and your account will be deleted. So be sure to remove important documents from your e-mail in a timely manner.

I have graduated and need my degree soon. What can I do?

If you need your degree quickly for a job application or application for an advanced program, you can request a digital extract from the degree register from DUO. This has the same value as the degree.

Enrollment terminated or maintained after graduation

Graduating in a month other than June, July or August

Having obtained your Master’s degree, you must decide whether you wish to renew your registration at the university. If not, you may be entitled to a partial refund of the tuition fees. For further information, see De-enrollment. If you wish to continue your registration for the same program, no action is required. Registration for a different Master’s program takes effect from 1 September (or from 1 February in some cases). You must then follow the standard registration procedure, observing the relevant deadlines.

Graduation in June, July or August

If you graduate in June, July or August, there is usually no advantage to terminating your registration. You are not eligible for any refund of your tuition fees and registration will lapse automatically on August 31. For information about re-enrollment please check the website Registration

Graduation in September

If on or after September 1 you have not yet obtained all your grades, for example because you have yet to defend your thesis, you must re-enroll for the new academic year. You will receive automatic notification of possible re-enrollment in the new academic year.

Registration for graduation ceremony on or after September 1

You do not need to be enrolled for only the graduation ceremony. So if you do not want to continue your enrollment at Tilburg University and you have passed all your courses before September 1 (including the grade for the thesis), you do not have to re-enroll for the new academic year, even if the graduation ceremony does not take place until September or October.
