If the language of instruction at the Partner University is Spanish, Italian, German, French or Portuguese, Tilburg University will require you to master that particular language. In that case, you will have to meet a certain language requirement before your departure.
In some cases the partner
university has certain language requirements and require you to take an
official TOEFL or IELTS test or hand in a Language Proficiency Report from
Tilburg University’s Language Center.

Meeting Tilburg University's language requirement
If you will be following courses in Spanish, Italian, French, German or Portuguese, you will have to meet Tilburg University’s language requirement before your departure to the partner university. For each language a minimum CEFR level of proficiency that needs to be met.
In general there are two ways to meet the Tilburg University language requirement:
- Take a language course at the Language Center
You are allowed to study for a maximum of 12 ECTS at our Language Centre for free. You will meet the requirement once you successfully pass the language course with a course target level equal to the minimum required CEFR level.

- Take a test at the Language Center
If you feel your language skills are already up to the required standard, you can take a test at our Language Center. Upon successful completion of the test, you will be awarded a certificate. With this certificate you will meet the requirement. Visit the Language Center website for more information.

Some of our partner universities expect you to show proof of your language proficiency. Usually they will indicate in the application instructions what kind of certificate or language scores they require.
There are three possibilities to meet the (English) language requirement of a partner university. Please note that not all partner universities accept the below options. It is the decision of the partner university what kind of proof they are willing to accept:
Take a language course at the Language Center

- If the partner university requires you to take a language test at an official language test center (e.g. TOEFL or Academic IELTS) you will have to take this test and obtain the required test score in order to be accepted at the partner university.
