Talent Outreach Program

The Talent Outreach program aims to bring excellent Tilburg University students in contact with various businesses or law firms operating in China. Master’s students may apply to conduct a 4-12 month unpaid internship at a firm in Shanghai or Beijing during the Fall semester or academic year 2018-19 as part of their study program. Six scholarships of approximately € 5,000 are available. More information regarding other scholarships will be posted here shortly.

Students will be supervised by a Tilburg University professor and will either conduct research or participate in a strategic project at the host company. Some internships may be combined with coursework at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics or Beijing Institute of Technology.

For upcoming selection round, the following places are already available.  Further positions may become available shortly:

  • Philips Lighting: 3 one-year positions starting in September 2018 for TiSEM, TSB and Data Science students. These internships will be combined with coursework at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Moreover, the workweek will consist of three days at Philips Lighting and two days at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

  • Philips Healthcare: 4 one-year position starting in September 2018 for TiSEM, TSB and Data Science students. This internship will also be combined with coursework at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Moreover, the workweek will consist of three days at Philips Healthcare and two days at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

  • AkzoNobel: 1 one-year position starting in September 2018 for TiSEM, TSB and Data Science students. The internships will be combined with coursework at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

  • A&Z Law Firm: 1 one-year position starting in September 2018 for TLS students. The internships will be combined with coursework at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

  • Jingshi Law Firm: 2 one-semester positions starting in September 2018 for TLS students. The unfunded internships are combined with coursework at Beijing Institute of Technology, School of Law.

Information companies

Philips Lighting

Positions will be in Supply Chain Management, Human Resources (focused on employer branding and campus attraction), and Marketing and Communication. Knowledge of the Chinese language is not required, but for some positions may be preferred.

Philips Healthcare

The positions will be in Marketing, Management, Supply Chain Management or Human Resources. No knowledge of the Chinese language is required.

AkzoNobel

The position will be in the decorative paint division, department to be determined. AkzoNobel supplies innovative and sustainable paints coatings and specialty chemicals to customers and industries around the world.

A&Z Law Firm

A& Z Law Firm is a leading Chinese law firm, which employs over 55 experts.  Their Shanghai office was started in 2004. They advise multi-national groups, major corporations, publicly listed companies, private clients and banks on various legal issues relevant to their business endeavors.

Jingshi Law Firm

Established in 1994, with the foundation office in Beijing! It has branch offices in 26 cities, such as Tianjin, Qingdao, Wuhan, Chengdu, Nanjing, Sanya, Chongqing etc. The service sector includes litigation and arbitration, real estate and construction, financial capital, intellectual property affairs, legal services of public welfare and international legal affairs.

Application Procedure

All applicants must have finished their coursework for their Master’s program before the internship starts. You may write your thesis while conducting the internship if your receive approval from your supervisor and the company also approves.

Selection Criteria

Students will be pre-selected for introduction to the partner companies by a selection committee. Pre-selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Academic Performance
  • Ambassadorship
  • Motivation

The partner companies will make the final selection.
