Thesis editing service Scribbr wins Oryx Award
Alumni Bas Swaen, Richard van Laak and Koen Driessen set up their company Scribbr in 2012. They had trouble finding someone to check their Master’s theses for a reasonable price. With Scribbr, students can easily and quickly have their thesis checked by professional editors. Scribbr does not write theses, but checks the language and structure of submitted texts.
Swaen, Van Laak, and Driessen have been granted the Oryx Award for FD Gazelles because of Scribbr’s remarkable growth. The company was one of four nominees. The Oryx Award is granted annually by the Dutch financial daily newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad to the company with the most remarkable growth. The assessment takes into account aspects like innovation, future perspective, and impact.
So far, 80,000 students have used Scribbr’s services. With a team of 60 employees and more than 500 freelance editors, the company has achieved a turnover of approximately € 9 million. In 2016, Scribbr won the BESI (Best Entrepreneurial Student Initiative) Award during the Opening of the Academic Year at Tilburg University.
Four other start-ups were nominated for FD Gazelles, the awards for fastest growing companies in the Netherlands.
