Nathan Wildman | Good reasoning - How to navigate life's complexities with logic | DZ 2

Clearly, good reasoning is a good thing (it’s even in the name!). But what makes a particular chain of reasoning good? Put another way, how can we distinguish bad or pernicious arguments from those that we should accept? One tool designed to help us here is formal logic. The aim of this session is to motivate and present the foundations of formal logic in a fun and friendly way. By thinking about formal logic, you’ll be better equipped to evaluate arguments, identify inconsistencies, and draw conclusions that actually follow from the reasons given – in other words, better able to navigate life’s complexities.

Seagull supports vessel monitoring for ports, harbors, and waterways. By automatically detecting, recognizing, and registering vessels, Seagull advances the safety of maritime domains. Unlike traditional maritime surveillance systems, Seagull uses video registration, which can be used in conjunction with AIS and radar detection or, as a standalone solution.

Inspech improves maintenance of road infrastructure, supporting the visual assessment by road inspectors and providing insights for asset managers. The use of affordable cameras avoids high investment costs while allowing timely detection of road damages.

In this one hour session we can cover questions about:

  1. getting the problem definition right
  2. deployment under variety of conditions
  3. deep learning and data-centric approaches
  4. the future of visual inspection use cases
