CobbenhagenEvening: Antonin Dvořák's Stabat Mater
Watching and listening together to one of its greatest performances, with introduction and subtitles.
In 1876, after the death of his second child, Bohemian composer Antonin Dvořák (1841-1904) completed his music to the medieval Marian hymn Stabat Mater, most likely written by Jacopone da Todi (13th century).
This composition also made Dvořák known internationally; after it, he began receiving invitations and commissions from all over Europe.
The Stabat Mater is an identification with the suffering of Mary, who follows her son Jesus below the cross on which he will die.
We will listen to it on the eve of Holy Week, during a Cobbenhagen Evening on Saturday, April 1, in university church 'Maranatha', Prof. Cobbenhagenlaan 19 in Tilburg. You are most welcome to join!
The performance we will see and hear is that by the Prague Symphony Orchestra conducted by Libor Pešek and the Prague Symphony Choir conducted by Pavel Kuhn, at the Frankfurt Old Opera in 1993. Soprano is Eva Urbanová, mezzo-soprano Kateřina Kachlíková, tenor Štefan Margita and bass Peter Mikuláš.
There will be a short introduction and the screening itself will be subtitled in both Dutch and English.

The CobbenhagenEvenings are cultural evenings organized by Tilburg University Chaplaincy, university church Maranatha, and Catholic movement Communion and Liberation. In the spirit of university founder Cobbenhagen, they aim to bring together academia, Christian proposal and the Tilburg region. The evenings begin at 8 pm in university church Maranatha at Professor Cobbenhagenlaan 19 in Tilburg. After the 'formal' part, there will be drinks and a book table. The evenings are freely accessible. Afterwards there will be a collection. There is ample free parking at Professor Cobbenhagenlaan. Tilburg Universiteit railway station is a 10-minute walk away.
