dr. A. Markus

Assistant Professor

TS Social and Behavioral Sciences
Department of Organization Studies

I am an assistant professor at the Department of Organization Studies, Tilburg University. Prior to this I visited the Management Department at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, as a postdoc and lecturer for a year. I received my doctoral degree from the Department of Innovation and Organizational Economics at Copenhagen Business School. I also hold a MSc and BSc in Human Geography and Planning from Utrecht University.

With my research I aim to improve our understanding of the micro-foundations of how firms search for, and subsequently develop, external knowledge. I specifically focus on how, and under what circumstances, hiring of scientists and engineers affects the rate and direction of firm-level innovation. In addition to this, I study collaboration networks of inventors within and between organizations and how they influence firm innovation. For my research I draw on employer-employee matched panel data from Statistics Denmark as well as patent data.

Currently I teach courses on innovation, strategy and organization at the (research) master and bachelor level.
