Professor of Logistics Optimization
From a farmer's son who helped his dad calculate which cows to keep, to logistics optimization expert: Goos Kant has been committed to making an impact since a very young age. Kant specializes in logistic planning, and has a preference for combining academia with a more practical, applied approach. Kant calls academia his “home away from home”, and he has been a professor of logistics optimization since 2005. He’s the project leader of a major R&D project on horizontal collaboration, is regularly an invited speaker at conferences and lectures for executive education programs. Optimizing mathematical models is in his nature, but he is also driven to scout out improvements that cannot be found in models. Next to this role, he is also Managing Partner of ORTEC, ORTEC is the world’s leading supplier of mathematical optimization software and advanced analytics with around 1,000 employees and offices in 13 countries around the globe.
I am teaching Professional Business Analytics Skills (Tilburg University), Prescriptive Algorithms (JADS), and the Data Science Executive Program (JADS)
I really love teaching, to share the great knowledge in optimization, but also best practices from my experiences at ORTEC. I am Managing Partner at ORTEC, and really wants to form a bridge between the academic theory and the practical experience.
Since I am also Managing Partner at ORTEC, it is clear that I find collaboration with companies and industries very important. This collaboration is also an important element in my teaching, to provide practical cases and experiences, and in my research projects, like around inner city distribution (4C4D R&D-project) and Compose (strategic horizontal collaboration between shippers). Related to this, I am in favor of multi-disciplinary research, like I am applying with Social Psychology, Supply Chain Management and the Legal School, to obtain a holistic view. And, finally, I am really in favor of purpose-driven research, to create a better world together.
My major achievement was when I became finalist of the Franz Edelman Award. This is a very high honor for achievements in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science. This was joined research in last-mile delivery with Coca-Cola Enterprises and ORTEC.
