I am interested in the rigorous evaluation of constraints that keep small firms in poor countries from growing. Against the backdrop of developing societies, I aim to study micro-mechanisms underlying the pervasiveness of poverty both external (institutions, credit and insurance markets) and internal (confidence, aspirations, locus of control) to the decision-maker. More broadly, I am interested in research at the intersection of economics and psychology and the role that culture plays in individual decision-making.

My PhD work is partly sponsored by the DFID grant "Coordinated Case Studies - Innovation for Productivity Growth in Low Income Countries". My supervisors are Patricio Dalton and Daan van Soest.
