Developmental Psychology

My research focuses on personality development and identity formation in adolescence and young adulthood. Currently, my research is (partly) funded by a NWO VIDI grant.

I examine identity from various timescales (long- and short-term processes) using different types of data (self-report questionnaires, narratives). One of my main research interests concerns the role of identity processes in emerging personality pathology. In addition, I examine how personality development and identity formation are associated with normative developmental tasks, adjustment in important life domains, and problem behavior symptoms. I employ a rather broad perspective on personality, as I do not only consider traits, but also personality facets, and personality types.
