World Cleanup Day at Tilburg University

Published: 15th September 2023 Last updated: 18th September 2023

This Saturday, Sept. 16, is World Cleanup Day! 197 countries participate. Do you want to get some fresh air during your study or workday and at the same time help keep the campus and Warandebos litter-free? Then come pick litter with us today, together with Paul Hoeijmans, director Facility Services. And make sure our beautiful green surroundings continue to shine.

Sustainability is also structurally embedded in our operations at Tilburg University. We want to be bold, take responsibility and set an example with our campus. Therefore, we limit our impact on the environment as much as possible and actively contribute to solutions.

Did you know?

As an organization, Tilburg University strives to deal with its own waste in a circular way:

We ask our community to deposit litter in garbage cans, ensure adequate cleaning and also look at how we deal with waste released from renovation, demolition, or in our catering process. For example, we demolished one of our buildings in 2021 by circular demolition, resulting in only 1% of the waste materials being burned.

And did you know that our supplier of coffee in CUBE and Montesquieu handles coffee grounds in a special way? Circle of Beans collects the used coffee grounds and uses it in a reactor, along with bacteria. The bacteria eat the coffee grounds and turn them into biofuel. The coffee roaster runs on this renewable gas. The roasted coffee is then delivered in reusable buckets to Cirfood (Tilburg University's caterer).

World Cleanup Day - 2

Prickers on loan in Vigilant building

Help make your campus litter-free! Together with your friends, borrow one of our pickers and a garbage bag from security in the Vigilant building and help with World Cleanup Day! There are fun walking routes. Share your photos online and use #wearetilburguniversity. Good news: after this event, you can borrow the trash pickers in the Vigilant building anytime for a garbage picking break.
