TILEC 20th Anniversary Conference

Background of the conference

For the past 20 years, the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC) has supported and stimulated academic research on the governance of economic activity. In its research themes competition & regulation, innovation, and institutions, TILEC members from law and economics study how interactions between users and firms, organizations and their members, public agencies and regulated entities, courts and litigants, as well as voters and political parties are governed. 

TILEC’s formula is to be interdisciplinary, innovative, fundamental, and relevant. As such, we have collaborated with academic organizations, public authorities (especially regulators and competition authorities), think tanks, companies, and social partners. TILEC's research and researchers have influenced decisions at the EU and US Supreme Courts, have affected laws at the EU and national levels, and have helped policy makers, regulators, and other public authorities in several jurisdictions to identify and implement better policies, for the benefit of citizens and society at large.

Today, the institute gathers more than 40 legal scholars and economists at Tilburg University and additionally has a network of over 50 extramural fellows working at other organizations. TILEC has gained a reputation as a world-class law & economics institute, as evidenced by external review committees and its ranking both among the top 10 economics departments globally and among the top 10 international law schools, based on Social Science Research Network (SSRN) download statistics.

This anniversary conference marks a time to gather outstanding researchers and policy makers in the domain of TILEC’s activities, to reflect and celebrate, to meet old friends and make new ones. Welcome to Tilburg!

Format

The conference will take place on April 11th and 12th, 2024, for two full days. We will gather in the brand-new MindLabs building, which is located right next to the Central Train Station in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
