First Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation graduates
The BSc Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation is an academic program that caters to students who really want to get ready for entrepreneurship and business innovation; it is meant for people who want to make a difference. The first cohort of students graduated on Thursday, September 28. New graduates Paulina Wierzba and Harald d’Oultremont join Academic Director Wynand Bodewes in taking a retrospective look as well as gazing into the future.

The Tilburg University Challenge encourages students to start a business focused on a social problem. In 2021, Freek van Litsenburg won both the Business Ready Award and the Audience Award with his company Bigger Picture Clothing. The accompanying cash prize, co-sponsored by the Tilburg University Fund, got him off to a flying start. How are Freek and his company doing these days?

The moment then second-year student Patrick Vermeulen (51) sets eyes on Mirelle Voskes (49) at the 1992 Psychology introduction camp he’s impressed. They are both in a relationship at the time, so a romance isn’t in the cards. All they do is keep running into each other and remain friends. Until that night in 1997, when the dam burst.

University-wide academic collaborative centers: A matter of give and take
When it comes to addressing the really major issues, collaboration involving several disciplines and societal partners is required. With that in mind, Tilburg University has established a series of university-wide ‘academic collaborative centers’ to work on themes such as Digital Health & Mental Wellbeing. This particular center has identified a wonderful mission for itself: ‘To make working on your mental health the most normal thing in the world by the year 2030.’

After the summer of 2000, Mark van de Laak (40) and Marieke van der Pol (41) started at Tilburg University as students of Business Communication and Digital Media. In TOP Week, the university’s introduction week, they were in the same group, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Ryan van der Aa (64) and Corona Smitskam (64) met for the first time during a School introduction day in 1977. After two years of studying together, they clicked. They have now been together for more than 40 years and reminisce about their time in Tilburg.

From first kiss at McDonalds to Italian proposal: Machiel and Chloë found love at the university

Machiel Hermans (29) and Chloe van Beek (28) first met at the Student for a Day program for Public Administration. They became an item in 2012 and tied the knot exactly ten years later.

Inner motives have guided Peter Broeders’ life and career
Our alumni have some interesting careers. Where did Tilburg University alumnus Peter Broeders’ studies take him? After gaining a Bachelor’s in Econometrics at the Katholieke Hogeschool Tilburg in 1985 and a Master's degree in Business Economics at the Katholieke Universiteit Brabant in 1989, in 2022 Peter completed a Master’s degree in Theology at Tilburg University. Since 2019 he has been national director of Kerk in Nood Nederland, where he devotes himself to his fellow human beings.
