Tilburg University involved in large multidisciplinary research into energy transition
13th December 2019The European Commission recently presented the European Green Deal, which sets ambitious goals and measures to achieve the Paris climate goals. The switch to a sustainable CO2-neutral energy supply is an important spearhead. The Tilburg professors Martijn Groenleer and Saskia Lavrijssen are both co-applicants for two large-scale multidisciplinary research projects that aim to accelerate the energy transition, supported by NWO with a grant of more than 10 million euros per project.

Youngsters under the radar made visible
19th November 2019Figures presented by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) show that as many as 134,430 of the youngsters between 15 and 27 years of age are not going to school or otherwise take part in education, do not have a job, are not receiving welfare or benefits, and are not registered as job seekers. Half of this group were completely under the radar. Initiator of the ‘Alle Jongeren in Beeld’ (All youngsters Made Visible) project, Professor Ton Wilthagen of Tilburg University, is trying to help these youngsters with programs that increase their employability and thereby their participation in society. ‘Alle Jongeren In Beeld’ is a recently finalized program carried out within the framework of the National Science Agenda (Nationale Wetenschapsagenda).

Meet TrusTee – Tilburg University is developing the world’s most reliable robot
14th November 2019Tilburg University is developing the most reliable robot and the most reliable artificial intelligence. We are working on a robot in which technology is employed that is as closely in line as possible with human values. A robot that takes into account what is good for the individual, for society, and for our planet as a whole. During the ‘Man-Machine & Values’ seminar that is to be held this afternoon, Ton Wilthagen will go into Tilburg University’s future-oriented research- and impact agenda.

17th April 2019Robots will take over all jobs, so it is often thought. On the contrary, say Charissa Freese and Ton Wilthagen: robots will create jobs. It’s just that these new jobs will be different, and the challenge is to anticipate which jobs will disappear, which ones will change, and what the new ones will be like – and when. Tilburg University aims to prepare employers and employees to the labor market of the near future.
