Research project EISON

The project is funded by the Dutch Research Council in collaboration with the Dutch Council of Inspectorates (Inspectieraad) in an effort to develop supervision modalities and practices in and for a changing society.

NWO to fund three NWA studies into supervision in a changing society)

The project has a dual mission: to make a theoretical contribution to supervision in and of organizational networks and assist in solving current and anticipated problems of professionals seeking to improve supervision practices in the context of addressing complex societal issues.

For this reason, we develop and test supervision methods and modalities through action design research in four domains (health care, education, social housing, and public safety). We develop the methods and modalities with the regulators operating in these domains, eight organizational networks, and three branch organizations of internal supervisors. Examples are informal consultation and coordination between inspectorates, consultation of external stakeholders, ‘network mapping’ and ‘developmental evaluation’ by the Inspectorates, standardization of norms, and integrating network performance in the inspection framework (Inspectorate Health and Youth Care, 2020).  Developing new methods and modalities of supervision of organizational networks is highly pertinent given the need for standards, frameworks, and protocols for assessing organizational networks.
