Summary

The province of Noord-Brabant has commissioned TiREG to carry out a research project regarding principles of good governance in interactions between the province, municipalities and stakeholders in the context of environmental (planning) decisions.

Environmental planning at the provincial level is accomplished through a mix of policy and individual decision-making. The province aims to prevent unnecessary procedures and litigation and, in light of the current reform of Dutch environmental and planning law (Omgevingswet), to further develop a dedicated policy in this regard.

Eijlander and Meuwese, together with a team that carries out interviews, study several cases of complex decision-making with a view to drawing lessons for all parties involved.
