Staff Department Social Psychology

The Social Psychology Lab

The SP Lab primarily hosts studies conducted at the Department of Social Psychology. These studies usually investigate the areas of Economic, Social, and Work & Organizational Psychology.

These disciplines are interested in how individuals interact in groups to make judgments and decisions, and how this contributes to different social, economic, organizational, and societal outcomes.

For Researchers

Lab Inventory

In addition to two behavioral labs that are equipped with a total of 24 regular PCs (mouse and keyboard setup) in cubicles, and an interactive space in the middle, we also have equipment to look at physiological parameters.

Specifically, we do research using thermal cameras, eye tracking systems, and psychophysiological measures such as heart rate or facial muscle activity, which usually happens in our physiology lab.

If you have more detailed questions about the available equipment at the Social Psychology lab, please contact Dr. Thorsten Erle.

How to apply for a study

The Social Psychology lab makes it very simple to book the lab and get started with your research. You can also indicate which pieces of equipment you need for your study in the lab application form, which we always update when new equipment comes in.

Research topics at our department, for example, include digital technologies and well-being (e.g., video games, new ways of working, digital communication, etc.), determinants of economic decision-making (e.g., greed, honesty, institutional trust and punishments, perspective-taking), and intergroup processes (e.g., ostracism, coalition formation, romantic relations and dating).

For participants

The studies in this lab therefore usually involve real or imagined interactions with other people, and you can look forward to completing different types of exciting behavioral tasks and games investigating these topics in one of our two large behavioral labs.
