Can you tell us something about you?

Hi, I'm Abbie Bailey from England, but I have lived in the Netherlands for the past 3 years. I grew up in the historic city of Cambridge, before completing my Bachelor's in Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol. I moved to the Netherlands for my Master's in Health and Social Psychology at Maastricht University. My PhD research at Tilburg University focuses on chronic stress at work and the physiological strain of this on the body. Ultimately, I will design and test an intervention targeting Human Resource practices in the workplace to support employees through stress. I take a particular focus on the differences across and within age groups of employees.

Did cross-departmental research play a role during your bachelor’s/master’s studies? To which extent?

Throughout my academic career, I leaned more and more towards the interdisciplinary approach to studying. My master’s focused on health behaviour change, drawing research from the fields of health, social, and clinical psychology, public health, and behavioural economics. I enjoyed viewing the same problems from different perspectives and have carried this through to my PhD.

Cross-cutting themes

The Herbert Simon Research Institute for Health, Well-being, and Adaptiveness is a research center devoted to carrying out excellent, state of the art research in order to contribute to healthy and resilient people. We have selected three themes, which involve the collaboration between various Departments  and address actual themes in need of both fundamental and applied research.
