Fauré Requiem by Tilburg Student Choir

Date: Time: 20:00 Location: Petrus en Pauluskerk, Vierwindenlaan 9-11, Tilburg

The Tilburg Student Choir will perform their version of the Fauré Requiem on April 19th and 20th. The concerts are at the Petrus & Paulus Church. The choir consists of students from Tilburg who enjoy performing classical music

Composer Gabriel Fauré died in 1924, a hundred years ago. Reason for the Tilburg Student Choir to draw attention to this composer with a performance of his Requiem. Conductor Sil van den Hout: “The piece is a beautiful interplay between choir and organ. We have also found a student for the musical accompaniment: Toon IJzermans, who is pursuing a master's degree in Organ in Tilburg. The soprano soloist is one of our own choir members, who studies Classical Solo Singing at the Tilburg Conservatory. The baritone soloist is pursuing a master's degree in singing here.”

The choir wants to keep classical music alive for a young target group. That is why they regularly perform during open stages at Tilburg University, or at Festival Tilburg on Stage. They mainly sing a cappella. This is the first major project in which they also collaborate with an organist. “Which requires a completely different way of working and listening from the choristers. We learn a lot from each other and are really looking forward to the concerts,” says conductor Van den Hout.

In addition to the Requiem, the choir also performs several other classical works. For example by composer Duruflé and from Taizé's song repertoire. The concerts on April 19th and 20th start both evenings at 8 p.m. at the Petrus en Pauluskerk, Vierwindenlaan 9-11 in Tilburg.
