The University Council has chosen a new chairman: on March 1, 2024, Hans Haans will take over from Rien Wijnhoven.

Having worked as a marketing research consultant and as a teacher at a university of applied sciences for three years, Hans was invited to teach at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management in 2000, marking the start of his career at our university. Having first focused fully on his position as an instructor, Hans then turned to academic research and started a part-time PhD project which he successfully completed in 2007.

He further broadened and deepened his teaching role by taking on a diverse array of teaching duties. Over the years, Hans has been an Academic Director of various degree programs and the director of the Econasium, among other things. He also became a member of the Examination Appeals Board and the Examination Board. More recently, he has taken on the role of Associate Dean of Professionalization. In addition to these teaching duties, Hans has continued to have a predilection for academic research and has translated his efforts into scientific publications in the areas of retailing and food waste.

Hans Haans will succeed Rien Wijnhoven as chairman of the University Council, a role that Rien took over on March 1, 2014.

Hans Haans’ reaction

“When the position of chairman of the University Council became vacant, it was totally clear to me that I wanted to apply for the job. In the years that I actively represented the Fractie Onafhankelijken (the Independents party) as a member of the University Council, I have always performed my role with great enthusiasm and pleasure. As the new chairman, I want to communicate this enthusiasm to the academic community so that employee participation is more fully appreciated. After all, the university’s decision making has an impact on the wellbeing of both students and staff. As chairman, I hope to manage university decision-making and build support among the broader academic community, contributing to a pleasant working and studying environment. I am greatly looking forward to starting my work as chairman.”
