Published: 30th August 2023 Last updated: 01st September 2023

The Executive Board of Tilburg University appoints Marianne van Woerkom as professor at the chair "A Positive Psychological Perspective on Human Resource Studies" effective September 1, 2023. The chair focuses on how organizations can improve the well-being and development of employees, but indirectly also that of, for example, students or patients. In addition to the role of leadership and human resource management, the research also looks into positive psychology interventions.

Positive psychology interventions are activities or training methods aimed at identifying and enhancing positive individual traits or positive experiences. Not only do these interventions have the potential to enhance the well-being of employees, but also of people who are long-term unemployed, for example, or students about to enter the job market.

Marianne van Woerkom: For people to flourish, it is not enough to focus only on solving their problems and fixing their shortcomings. Instead, to promote development and well-being, you must also build on talents, positive character traits and available resources.
