Perspectives on broad prosperity: ESB launches podcast series with Tilburg University professors

Published: 11th October 2023 Last updated: 15th December 2023

How prosperous is the Netherlands? Will the next generation fare better or worse? In a 14-part podcast series, economic journal ESB invites researchers from Tilburg University to join thought-provoking conversations with policymakers, politicians and academics from other universities. The series kicks off with professor Kim Putters, who explains what 'broad prosperity' means, why we need a new way of looking at prosperity, and what the path towards broad prosperity looks like in practice.

For decades, the economic barometer in the Netherlands was a single number: the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). But times are changing, and the quest for a deeper understanding of prosperity is gaining momentum. The podcast series 'Welvaart, de brede podcast' by ESB delves into the heart of this paradigm shift.

Tilburg University professors joining the podcast

The podcast series kicks off with professor Kim Putters, who serves as chairman of the Social and Economic Council (SER) and specializes in Broad Prosperity as a distinguished professor at Tilburg University. In the first episode, Putters dissects what 'broad prosperity' truly means. He identifies the flaws in traditional notions of prosperity, and charts a concrete path towards a more comprehensive understanding of it.

Throughout the series, more Tilburg University professors will join the conversation. Guests include professor Reyer Gerlagh (episode 4), professor Marike Knoef (episode 5), professor Joks Janssen (episode 8), professor Herman Vollebergh (episode 11), and professor Paul van Geest (episode 12).

A new episode, in Dutch, will be launched every Friday. Below, you can listen to the available episodes with TiSEM researchers.
