TAISIG Talks 20: Pieter Spronck, Marleen Balvert and Wouter De Baene discuss how AI can help combat hunger and the effects of poverty

Marleen Balvert is assistant professor of Operations Research and Machine Learning and Wouter De Baene is associate professor at the Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology. Besides discussing with Pieter Spronck the goals of the Zero Hunger Lab and Zero Poverty Lab and the technologies and data that make it possible to work towards these goals, they also go into the opportunities and complexities associated with these technologies and data.

Attention is paid to the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and the involvement of non-academic partners to implement the tools developed by the labs. It concludes with a plea to ensure that all people can benefit from developments in the field of AI, in particular the most vulnerable people.
