Saving sign language for the future by AI and machine learning
28th March 2024More than three hundred sign languages have been registered in the world. But despite the advances in Artificial Intelligence and language technology, only a small number of them have been supported by AI tools and language technology. In order to improve this, linguistics expert Mirella De Sisto, artificial intelligence specialist Dimitar Shterionov, and PhD student Lisa Lepp have been working on automatic recognition and translation of sign language through machine learning and computational linguistics approaches in the SignON project.

26th March 2024Please note that the remote desktop application of SDC will be removed. Researchers and students will still be able to access SDC via a user account of LSEG (formerly known as Refinitiv Workspace/Eikon), which is more user-friendly and includes more extensive data.

Anke Liefbroer deserving finalist in the national Teacher of the Year election 2024
26th March 2024Anke Liefbroer (Tilburg School of Catholic Theology) was honored yesterday as one of the four finalists of the national Teacher of the Year election in Theater De Kom in Nieuwegein. Our congratulations to the winner, Peter Pelzer (Utrecht University), finalists Hanneke Velthuijsen (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences), Chris Attai (Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen), and of course our own Tilburg University colleague Anke Liefbroer.
