Royal Decoration for Ada van der Velden-Westervelt and Gerard van den Berg

On April 26, Ada van der Velden-Westervelt, former Dean of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, received a royal decoration from the mayor of Ede. Gerard van den Berg, member of the Board of Governors of Tilburg University and professor of Health Econometrics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the RUG and UMCG, was also honored on this day.

Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau

Ada van der Velden-Westervelt has been appointed a member of the Order of Orange-Nassau for her outstanding services to Tilburg University, her various board positions, and her volunteer work for the community. As a board member, she was active in the supervisory board of the Stichting Primair Onderwijs Ede, the supervisory boards of the Kathedrale Koorschool in Utrecht and the Pallas Athene College in Ede, and as chair of the board of the local allotment garden association. As a volunteer, she has been contributing to the ecumenical community Exodus in Ede for many years. During her time as dean of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, she played a significant role until her retirement in April 2024, actively promoting the well-being of colleagues and students.

Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau

Gerard van den Berg has been appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Mayor Drs. K.F. Schuiling awarded him the royal decoration at the Town Hall of the municipality of Groningen. As a professor of Health Econometrics, Van den Berg is commended for his internationally renowned work in the field of economics and health. His academic career, which began at the RUG and continued in various countries, is praised for its analytical depth and societal relevance. Van den Berg is known for his broad expertise and elegant solutions to complex problems, as well as his connecting role within academia and society. Van den Berg has been appointed as a new member of the Board of Governors of Tilburg University as of October 1, 2023.
