Research Tilburg School of Humanties and Digital Sciences

How to apply?

The first step is to look for a professor from the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences from the field of knowledge relevant to your topic, who is willing to supervise your thesis. To give you an impression of the research at Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences, you can check Research Programs and/or Research Institutes. Once you have found a preferred supervisor, the second step is to approach the professor by sending an e-mail with your curriculum vitae as well as your own research topic and description.

If you are an employed teacher and want to apply for a grant such as the Doctoral Grant for Teachers program (NWO), you need to start by finding a suitable supervisor as well.

Once you have a potential supervisor, you have to make sure that you comply with the legal and formal requirement for becoming a PhD candidate at Tilburg University, like having a Master diploma. If you have obtained a Master diploma from outside of The Netherlands, you will need to go through a diploma recognition process. The Graduate School can take care of the diploma recognition for you. We work together with an external examination board, NUFFIC, who will review the documents and determine whether the diploma obtained is equivalent to a Master's degree obtained in The Netherlands.

To start the procedure, please e-mail the following documents to the Graduate School at tshd.graduateschool@tilburguniversity.edu:

  • your passport or birth certificate or certificate of residence
  • a simple copy of your original diplomas (BA and MA), and a translation into English (if applicable)
  • a simple copy of the original transcripts or mark sheet (BA and MA), and a translation into English (if applicable)

If your application has been approved, you will be notified by the Graduate School and will be requested to enroll in Hora Finita. Read more information about enrollment.
