Lean Canvas

The Lean Canvas is a version of the Business Model Canvas adapted by Ash Maurya in 2010 especially for the early phase of your startup.

The Lean Canvas looks similar to the Business Model Canvas, but has In the Lean Canvas, but has other blocks. 'Problem' and 'Solution' replace the 'Key Partners' and 'Key-Activities' blocks in the Business Model Canvas, while 'Key Metrics' and 'Unfair Advantage' blocks replace the 'Key-Resources' and 'Customer Relationships' blocks. Ash Maurya is the author of the book Running Lean: Iterate from a Plan A to a Plan That Works.

What do you get out of it?

The Lean Canvas saves you time and money, and gives you quick insight into the wishes of your customer so that you can make what they want and what they want to pay you for. "Is there a problem that your customers experience and that they want to be solved" is the most important first question for a startup.

Get started quickly

The preparation is simple: ask your business developer for an A1-size canvas and a stack of post-its. Stand in front of the canvas with your team and complete the model in 9 steps. You can also fill in digitally with the fillable PDF. You can of course also print this.

Remember that what you have written down on your Lean Canvas consists for a large part of assumptions that you have to validate with potential customers. The Experiment Board helps you design and conduct experiments.
