University Medal awarded to Klaas Sijtsma

On Friday, May 19, 2022, Professor Klaas Sijtsma was awarded the University Medal at his farewell for his extraordinary services to the university.

Professor Klaas Sijtsma was presented with the University Medal by Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board Wim van de Donk for his many years of outstanding service to Tilburg University. In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Psychological Research Methodology at Tilburg University. In his subsequent career at Tilburg University he held several board positions.

These include his position as Head of the Methodology and Statistics Department and his position as Dean of the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. From September 1, 2019 until November 19, 2020, Sijtsma was interim Rector Magnificus and in that capacity he was spearheaded attempts to deal with a major crisis: the Covid-19 pandemic. He has published extensively in leading international journals and he has authored several books on psychometrics. His soon-to-be-released book on scientific integrity is provisionally titled Never Waste a Good Crisis - Lessons Learned from Data Fraud and Questionable Research Practices.

Rector Magnificus Wim van de Donk: “Both as a scientist and as an administrator, Klaas has at crucial moments been of great value to our academic community. In the area of scientific integrity, he has put Tilburg University on the map, turning vulnerability into a strength. It is as a token of our deep appreciation for his many achievements and services that the Executive Board awards the University Medal to Klaas on the occasion of his farewell.“
