Daniel Smit appointed professor of Corporate Taxation and Corporate Finance at Tilburg University

PRESS RELEASE 7 April 2016 - Dr Daniel Smit (1976), tax lawyer at EY, has been appointed professor at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management for a period of five years. As of 1 April 2016, he is holder of the chair in Corporate Taxation and Corporate Finance: The Corporate Taxation of Multinational Enterprises in a Global Economy and Corporate Finance.

In addition to his activities at EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young), Daniel will perform interdisciplinary research for three days a week, with a focus on the tax treatment of multinational corporate financing. Recent international developments at the level of the OECD and EU in this area will receive special attention. With his research Daniel aims to make an interdisciplinary contribution to the development and improvement of existing tax rules on the financing of international enterprises.

Daniel studied Netherlands Law and Netherlands Tax Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam and graduated cum laude. In 2011, he obtained his PhD from Tilburg University, where he has been a member of the Tilburg Fiscal Institute since 2007. His doctoral thesis was awarded the prestigious European Academic Tax Thesis Award 2012. He is the author of more than 100 national and international publications in the field of international and European tax law and a regular guest speaker at national and international seminars, courses and lectures. Daniel has been employed at EY since 2002 and is currently part of the EU Tax Services team in Amsterdam.
