Children's drawings can help with early detection of giftedness

The farmers’ movement does not shy away from harsh, disruptive actions either. To what extent do these disruptive actions contribute to protest groups’ objectives? And what is the social impact as regards political choices and voting behavior? Sociologist Ruud Wouters is conducting research into the impact of protest on political choices and the elections. “Protest can force political parties to take a clear stand.”

Traditional sorghum beer key to conflict settlement in rural Uganda
13th March 2023In rural Uganda, both clan councils and government institutions play an important role in settling local disputes. This leads to tensions around the issue of sovereignty: who ultimately decides on things? These tensions often revolve around the use of locally brewed beer in clan councils. But the two kinds of authorities also need each other to maintain their sovereignty in the district. That’s what Danse de Bondt concludes in her dissertation which she will defend at Tilburg University on Friday 17 March 2023.

Two Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships awarded to Tilburg University researchers
07th March 2023The successful applicants are Etienne Lorang supervised by Professor Reyer Gerlagh), who will work at the Economics Department of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), and Leena Bhattacharya (supervised by prof. dr. Arthur van Soest) , who will conduct her research at the TiSEM Econometrics and Operations Research Department. The fellowships will enable them to carry out their research projects for two years.

New research project develops app to counter online child abuse

How we take care of the trees on campus

Recognizing fake news in course CoMMiTTed
27th February 2023'Fake news is of all times, but has taken off with the corona pandemic. It is therefore an important subject of research. That is why we received a grant from the European Union to investigate the phenomenon,' says Jan Jaap de Ruiter, together with Max Spotti forming a team of Tilburg scientists, alongside Spanish, Portuguese and German colleagues. It has just been completed. The goal was to create a teaching module with the results and give students tools on how to recognize fake news.
