Debate Series on Sustainable & Just Free Markets with Nobel Prize Winners Joseph Stiglitz & Mohammad Yunus
21st September 2020On September 21, researchers from four Dutch universities, including Tilburg University, will start an international consultation that will investigate the options for a sustainable and just free market in Europe. Central part of the consultation is a series of live casts on “The Future of Capitalism” with internationally renowned economists, including Nobel Prize winners Joseph Stiglitz and Mohammad Yunus. The series is organized in collaboration with Dutch debating center Pakhuis de Zwijger. Under the leadership of former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, ideas from the consultation will be bundled in a report that will be published in 2021.

E-book on strategic logistical collaboration
15th September 2020For three years, many researchers and students from Tilburg University, together with companies in the transport sector, have focused on the question of how it is possible that horizontal collaboration does not get off the ground, while the contribution to the improvement of profitability and sustainability seems so obvious. Recently, the e-book Compose: strategische logistieke samenwerking [Compose: Strategic logistical collaboration] has been published with the most important findings from the research conducted as part of the Compose project.

Professor Geert Vervaeke reappointed as Tilburg Law School’s Dean for 2021-2025
14th September 2020Professor Geert Vervaeke has been reappointed for a four-year period as the Dean of Tilburg Law School. The Executive Board has decided this, having heard the TLS School Board. Vervaeke has filled this role since April 1, 2017.

'The New Common': Presentation book on social consequences of corona
11th September 2020The New Common' by 50 Tilburg scientists will be presented in Tilburg on September 19. What are the consequences of the corona crisis for society and how can we work together to deal with them? The book and the debate focus on these questions.

No increase in mental problems after the COVID-19 outbreak in the Netherlands, except among specific groups such as job seekers
10th September 2020The prevalence of Dutch adults with mild to severe anxiety and depression symptoms during COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020 was similar to the prevalence in November 2019 (about 17%). However, specific groups such as job seekers and students more often had anxiety and depression symptoms than employed adults.

No significant returns on sustainable investments in times of crisis
10th September 2020Sustainable investments are seen worldwide as a “vaccine” against poor stock performance in times of crisis. Research by Philip Joos and Jurian Hendrikse (Tilburg University) shows that this is not the case. Traditional measures such traditional yardsticks as liquidity and innovation-based assets are better indicators of crisis period stock price resilience.

University buildings part of European Heritage Day on September 12 and 13
08th September 2020National European Heritage Day 2020 pays special tribute this year to ‘monuments of learning’, buildings where classes were taught in the past and sometimes into the present, including some Tilburg University buildings. The university owns four listed buildings.

ZonMW Covid-19 grant for Ashley Metz
04th September 2020Ashley Metz (Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences) received a ZonMW Covid-19 grant for her research on the preconditions for Covid-19 mobile apps. Tracking the Covid virus is very important to prevent or manage a second wave of infections. This project aims to contribute detailed insights.

Professor Jantine Schuit appointed in new position: member of Executive Board and Vice-Rector Magnificus
31st August 2020The Tilburg University Board of Governors has appointed Professor Jantine Schuit as a member of the Executive Board as well as Vice-Rector Magnificus of the University, effective November 19, 2020. This new dual position was established following the combination of the roles of Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board.

Beliefs disadvantaged people tend to reinforce economic inequality
26th August 2020The way disadvantaged people think about their economic status and their beliefs of others’ opinions contributes to their not acting against the status quo. That is what sociologist Ondrej Buchel concludes in his PhD thesis, which he will defend at Tilburg University on September 4th.
