In mijn promotieonderzoek onderzocht ik de kwaliteit van leven van (ex-)kankerpatiënten die 5-15 jaar geleden de diagnose kanker kregen. We wilden graag weten hoeveel invloed de ziekte kanker nu nog heeft op mensen die lang geleden kanker hadden gehad. In 2007 resulteerde dat in een proefschrift en daaruit bleek dat (ex-)kankerpatiënten hun kwaliteit van leven over het algemeen goed vonden maar dat ze vaak nog wel last hadden van bijwerkingen van de ziekte of behandeling.  Het onderzoek kreeg een vervolg en is nu veel breder opgezet. We includeren patienten momenteel vanaf diagnose en volgen ze lang over de tijd. Daarnaast onderzoeken we, naast kwaliteit van leven, ook bredere concepten zoals depressie en vermoeidheid. Naast vragenlijsten verzamelen we nu ook data dmv  bloed afnames, beweegmeters (Actigraph/Fitbit), online voedingsdagboekjes en weegschalen. Ook onderzoeken we dit bij patienten met zeldzame tumoren, zoals schildklierkanker.
