Dr Jessie Hillekens

Expertise

Mijn onderzoek combineert inzichten van ontwikkelings-, sociale en culturele psychologie om de menselijke ontwikkeling te begrijpen in de socioculturele context. Ik onderzoek de ontwikkeling van kinderen en jongeren van verschillende (culturele) achtergronden alsook in verschillende culturele contexten. Hierbij kijk ik ook naar hoe ontwikkeling wordt ondersteund of verhinderd door de maatschappij en de mensen om hen heen (bv. ouders, peers, leerkrachten). Aangezien ik geloof dat de jeugd de toekomst heeft, is mijn ultieme onderzoeksdoel om alle jongeren van verschillende culturele en familie-achtergronden, genders, sexuele oriëntaties en fysieke en mentale (in)capaciteiten een veilige en leerrijke jeugd te geven. Ik bereid daarom mijn onderzoek op dit moment uit naar andere diversiteitservaringen buiten culturele diversiteit.

Onderwijs

In de 2e jaar Bachelor coördineer en onderwijs ik de cursus 'Ontwikkeling van persoonlijke relaties' in zowel het Nederlandse als Engelse psychologie programma. In de master ben ik betrokken als supervisor van master thesissen in het klinische kind en jeugd programma. Hiervoor heb ik ook 'Statistiek voor Psychologen - Deel 1' gecoördineerd en onderwezen in het 1e jaar Nederlandse psychologie programma aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven en heb ik ook master thesissen begeleid in de klinische en research master programma's.
