Mathieu Leloup is an assistant professor in constitutional and administrative law. He did a master in law at the University of Antwerp and did and LLM in Human Rights and Democratization at the European Inter-University Institute in Venice. In 2021, he obtained a PhD in law at the University of Antwerp on the topic of "the impact of the fundamental rights case law of the European Court of Human Right and the European Court of Justice on the domestic separation of powers".
Since 2021, he is also working as a postdoctoral researcher at Masaryk University, Brno, on the ERC funded project INFINITY, on informal judicial institutions. He is the member for Tilburg University of the Advisory Committee of the ICON-S Benelux chapter.
Mathieu Leloup's area of interest lies in constitutional and fundamental rights law, with a focus on issues of an institutional nature. He is mainly interested in topics of separation of powers, judicial independence, judicial governance, multilevel constitutionalism, and election law. In this, he keeps a focus on the interaction between the supra-national and national levels and the intersection between fundamental rights and constitutional law.
