Climate change changes ecosystems and causes viruses to go on the move. As a consequence, viruses move to areas where they did not previously exist. In this way, zoonoses (infectious diseases that originates from animals) are an environmental problem. Environmental law needs to play a role in preventing, or at least slowing down, the spread of dangerous infectious diseases, says Professor of Environmental Law Jonathan Verschuuren in his blog Corona and Environmental Law.
