The Future is Now: AI and the Blurred Lines of Reality

Within 5 years, over 90% of digital content will be AI-generated, blurring the line between what’s real and synthetic. This rapid development has many consequences. In a world where fake news is indistinguishable from real news, democratic processes, such as elections, rule of law and the functioning of the press will be directly affected. This new reality will also change our personal lives, as the increased use of AI like ChatGPT could lead to AI surpassing us in our jobs, faster and more efficiently than we may notice. And now that robots are rapidly becoming part of our households, and the sex robot industry is also gaining ground, we may soon be part of a society in which human-robot relationships are more frequent than human-human relationships. 

Bart van der Sloot, associate professor at Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT), Tilburg University, updates us on the implications and emphasizes the importance of debating what we want to achieve with AI and, most importantly, what limitations we wish to impose.
