Gaining work experience at the university for people distanced from a labor market

Tilburg University gives people distanced from a labor market an opportunity to participate and gain work experience. With their work, they increase security and service on our campus.

Our agreements

  • Agreements have been made with the matching unit of the City of Tilburg.
  • Agreements have been made with Diamantgroep

What has been achieved?

Since 2010, approximately 60 people without work were given the opportunity to gain six months of work experience. Four people of Diamantgroep work on the campus as service or transport assistants.

What do we do?

  • Since 2010, the university has offered work experience positions in collaboration with the matching unit of the City of Tilburg, at the initiative of research institute ReflecT. People without a job can gain experience at the reception desk of one of the university buildings. This also increases safety on campus. The team consists of people from different backgrounds, allowing them to be as self-managing as possible and to learn from each other. In 2014, the reception desk in Academia building was staffed by a team of five people. They perform front desk work, but can do other work upon request. There is also time for them to look for paid work.
  • The university is a work experience company for training in the security and graphics sectors.
  • In addition, it offers opportunities to interns and working students to gain work experience.
