Wilma de Koning new Vice-President of Tilburg University Executive Board
10th November 2023Wilma de Koning will become the new Vice-President of the Executive Board of Tilburg University on November 15, 2023. She succeeds Vice-President Paulina Snijders, who will join the Board of Directors of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) on September 1, 2023.

The Executive Board on the war between Israel and Hamas

We are all deeply affected by the violent images and the harrowing stories. As the Executive Board, we fervently hope that all the violence and hate will end soon and that dialogue may result in solutions that will lead to lasting peace. We urge our colleagues and students to continue to be caring and connected and to treat each other with consideration and respect.

Tilburg University and local businesses join forces for sustainable logistics: ‘Collaboration is in the Brabant DNA’

Over the coming years, the logistics sector in Brabant aims to lead the way in transitioning towards a sustainable future, where robust economic growth goes hand in hand with broad prosperity in the region. To shape this future, Tilburg University and local entrepreneurs have jointly established the Tilburg Initiative for Future Logistics (TIFL).

Tilburg University partner in Region Deal Central Brabant
02nd November 2023On November 1, the Dutch Ministry of the Interior launched the Regional Deal on ‘Entrepreneurship, innovation, and experimentation with a people-oriented focus’. This Central Brabant Regional Deal consists of nine projects aimed at promoting broad prosperity, on regional and national levels. Tilburg University fulfils a role in five of the nine projects.

Belief in spirits much less irrational than assumed

Unjustly so, argues Hans van Eygen in his new book "The Epistemology of Spirit Beliefs" (Routledge, 2023). His research assesses whether belief in spirits is epistemically justified. New series of Junior University lectures kicks off
26th October 2023On October 25, a new series of Junior University lectures, an initiative of Tilburg University Junior, kicked off with an inspirational lecture on social media and influencers. In a packed lecture hall, no fewer than 530 children aged 9 to 12 experienced what it feels like to be university students. Through such lectures, children are introduced to science and learn about the impact research has on their lives.

Tilburg University participated in knowledge mission to South Africa
23rd October 2023Outgoing Minister of Education, Culture and Science Robbert Dijkgraaf led a delegation of 21 leading Dutch education organizations on a knowledge mission to South Africa from October 14 to 18. In addition to Ministry officials, administrators of secondary vocational education institutions, universities of applied sciences, research universities, and umbrella organizations participated in the knowledge mission. On behalf of Tilburg University, Vice-Rector Magnificus Jantine Schuit joined the knowledge mission.

What are the real effects of climate-related disclosures?
23rd October 2023Policymakers set standards for firms’ reporting on climate-related matters to enable market participants to factor in risks, instill discipline and encourage firms to adopt cleaner practices. However, the costs and benefits of these rules are not entirely clear. Lucas Mahieux, Haresh Sapra and Gaoqing Zhang study the real effects of mandated disclosures. Their key policy recommendation is that disclosure requirements should not be set in isolation but coordinated globally.

Tilburg University and The Foodbank join forces to lower barriers to food aid
18th October 2023Around 180,000 people in our country receive support from the Dutch association for food banks. Although these figures illustrate that many individuals can find their way to food banks, estimates suggest that a far greater number of citizens qualify for such aid. In a collaborative effort, Tilburg University and Food Banks Netherlands are working together to lower the barriers to accessing food banks.
