Different disciplines meet during Digital Sciences for Society matchmaking event

On March 7, the Digital Sciences for Society strategic program, in collaboration with TAISIG and the university-wide Academic Collaborative Centers under the Program for Broad Prosperity, organized a matchmaking event. Researchers from the various Schools explored opportunities for research collaboration at the intersection of the digital sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

The reason for organizing the event was the Call for Proposals on Growth Projects. This Call aims to stimulate multidisciplinary research collaboration within and between Schools focused on innovation with or reflection on the digital sciences. The criteria include societal relevance and involvement of an external partner. Applications for funding of research projects can be submitted for amounts ranging from € 10,000 to € 25,000, where the amount requested may not exceed 80% of the total project costs. A total of € 200,000 is available for this Call. The application deadline is April 29. Funding will be awarded to applications that meet all the criteria by drawing lots.

Questions, tips and speed dates

During the matchmaking event, participants had the opportunity to ask questions about the Call, the application criteria, and the procedure of drawing lots. After that, they were provided with tips and tricks on working with external partners, such as differentiation in the degree of involvement and what questions to ask when choosing a partner. The tips and tricks shared can also be found in this PowerPoint presentation.

The event concluded with three speed dating rounds in which researchers shared with each other their research interests and explored where they aligned. A wide variety of topics came up, including digital integration of refugees and other vulnerable groups, human and AI teaming, legal aspects of new technologies, serious gaming for entrepreneurship, the opportunities of digitalization for the energy transition, managing the information between the technology and the application.
