Expansion and renewal

Within three decades, the number of students quintupled: from 838 in 1960 to 4,290 in 1977.

More and more temporary buildings, the provisoria, appear on campus. In 1964, the computing center is opened, where director and world chess champion Max Euwe lays the foundation for computer science. Tilburg scientists serve on various national advisory boards, such as the SER.

In 1971, the sub-faculty of Psychology was launched, Madzy Rood-De Boer, the first female professor was appointed (to the Law faculty), and the University Council was established. From then on, the institution is no longer run by full professors, but by an Executive Board that is accountable to the Council (which lost some of its powers in the 1990s).

More about history and academic heritage

The Tilburg University academic heritage is a very diverse set of archives, visual materials, collections, devices, recorded stories, et cetera that relate to the history of the university.
