New names, new directions

In 1981, an experimental letterenfaculteit (faculty of arts) began, which would later become the Tilburg School of Humanities and Data Science in which Theology—an independent program for a long time—also found a place.

After only five years, the letterenfaculteit is in danger of being cut, as are important parts of Psychology. The university community protests in 1986, massively and successfully. It is the year in which the name of the institution changes again: the Katholieke Hogeschool Tilburg is no more, long live the KUB, the Katholieke Universiteit Brabant. The logo with its trading ship disappears to make way for an abstract red triangle.

In 2003, the name changes again, to Universiteit van Tilburg (Tilburg University). In 1992, the opening of the UB—then self-consciously called Library of the Future—is the prelude to the development of the campus, which gets a new main axis, running from the Warandebos to Intermezzo.

More about history and academic heritage

The Tilburg University academic heritage is a very diverse set of archives, visual materials, collections, devices, recorded stories, et cetera that relate to the history of the university.
