"When things that are too dangerous to say, sing."

In January of 1997, on his deathbed, Elvis Presley’s former manager, Colonel Tom Parker, recalls how he came to know Presley. Colonel Parker (Born in the city of Breda in the Netherlands) tells how he met Presley, how he garnered worldwide fame, and how he became known for his voice, style, looks, and dancing moves.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann

Elvis, although a biographical film, is not lacking in Luhrmann’s distinct, flashy, over-the-top directing style. After gaining fame for his style through films such as Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet, Luhrmann brought us yet another fresh perspective on a widely recognizable topic. The film received praise from critics, as well as the Presley family and the public.

Awards

Elvis premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2022. Butler’s performance received universal acclaim and was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Film, as well as nominations for a BAFTA and an Academy Award. Critics praised the uniqueness of Luhrmann’s directing style, which garnered him Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. In total, the film received 8 Academy Award (incl. Best Picture), 9 BAFTA, and 3 Golden Globe nominations.
