Unlocking the spiritual heritage of religious orders for character building

Published: 09th October 2023 Last updated: 09th October 2023

The heritage of religious orders and congregations in the Netherlands is monumental, both materially and spiritually. The Virtual Virtuosity project aims to develop an online learning platform to unlock the spiritual heritage of these communities for character building in an educational setting.

“We want to create a virtual learning platform that makes the values and virtues of the religious orders and congregations available to students. Not in the form of a one-dimensional website, but as a meeting space where students can learn from the stories and texts of these communities and be inspired by their examples.” – Dr. Krijn Pansters.

In addition to Dr. Krijn Pansters, who brings theological, ethical, and spiritual perspectives to the table, the project team includes historian and cultural heritage expert Prof. Arnoud-Jan Bijsterveld and Dr. Tessa Leesen, whose research focuses on character education and its intellectual, personal, and social learning benefits. Student-run company Kweek Communicatie will help create an interactive website prototype.
