Gezy Schuurmans

PhD Candidate

TLS: Tilburg Law School
TLS: Department of Criminal Law

Bio

As one of the PhD candidates with the Joined-Up Justice Project, I research prosecutorial decision-making practices in 8 countries through empirical legal research. I focus on why certain cases are selected for prosecution and not others, and how investigative and prosecutorial approaches influence who gets prosecuted or not. These practices will then be situated within the global field of international criminal justice.

Previously, I studied at the Geneva Academy, where I obtained my Master's degree of Advanced Studies in Transitional Justice, and I studied at Tilburg University, where I obtained my LLM in International Law and Global Governance. During my education, I focused on refugee law, criminal justice, statelessness, and human rights law.

In addition to my research related to criminal law, I have experience researching nationality and statelessness.
