Jennifer van den Broek MSc MA

Bio

I am a PhD student at the Department of Criminal Law. I studied Criminology (BSc) at the University of Leiden and completed the master Forensic Criminology (MSc, Leiden University) and the educational master in Social Studies and Social Sciences (MA/first degree teaching qualification, Tilburg University, cum laude).

My research focuses on education and social resilience against subversive crime: preventing and identifying student involvement in criminal networks. This is funded by a Doctoral Grant for Teachers, granted by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Expertise

The research focuses on the role of secondary education in social resilience against subversive crime. How can they contribute to social resilience against subversive crime; how can they prevent pupils from becoming (further) involved in criminal networks by identifying, reporting and offering tools for teachers and educational support staff. The scientific aim is to increase theoretical insight into the mobilization of social involvement against (subversive) crime.

Teaching

In addition to my PhD, I work three days a week as a teacher in secondary education (Utrecht, X11 media en vormgeving).
